Avanell Houck, age 103, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the Lutheran Good Sheperd Nursing Home, Concordia, Missouri.
Avanell was born February 20, 1911 in Waverly, Missouri, the daughter of Albert and Virginia (Bell) Pangborn. She attended schools in Waverly, Missouri.
Avanell married Leonard “Buddy” Houck in 1940 at Lexington, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
Avanell had worked at the Sisters of Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kansas for eight years, and at the Kelling Clinic in Waverly, Missouri for twenty-four years. She was a member of the Waverly Baptist Church, the Garden Club, and Quilters at the Waverly United Methodist Church.
Avanell is survived by three grandsons, Ronnie Hardwick, Marshall, Missouri; Randy Hardwick, Daryl Hardwick, and one granddaughter, Anita Hardwick.
One son, Jewel Gene Hardwick, and one sister, May Bell Peters, also preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 12-1:15 p.m., Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Waverly Baptist Church with graveside services following at 1:30 p.m., Val Halla Cemetery, Waverly, Missouri.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Waverly Baptist Church in memory of Avanell. They may be left at or mailed to Foster Funeral Chapels, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.
